What do the US tariffs on Canadian goods include?

As of March 4, 2025, the United States has imposed 25% tariffs on Canadian goods, including:

  • Transportation: Passenger vehicles, trucks, buses, recreational vehicles, and boats
  • Steel and aluminum: Steel and aluminum products
  • Food: Certain fruits and vegetables, beef, pork, and dairy
  • Other products: Aerospace products, appliances, apparel, footwear, cosmetics, and certain pulp and paper products

The US has cited national security concerns, particularly related to illegal immigration and the flow of fentanyl and other drugs into the US, as the reason for these tariffs.

The initial set of tariffs, effective February 4, 2025, targets products such as:

  • orange juice, peanut butter, wine, spirits, beer, coffee;
  • appliances, apparel, footwear;
  • motorcycles, cosmetics, and pulp and paper;
  • 1,256 HS codes identified as subject to the surtax
